HANOVER TWP. – Hanover Township has won the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute 2016 Mayors Wellness Campaign Healthy Town to Watch Award.
The institute’s Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC) supports its mayors’ efforts to make their towns a Healthy Town. The “Healthy Town” designation recognizes communities in which mayors have made healthy lifestyles a top priority and are actively engaging all the members of their community.
The application submitted by the Hanover Township Recreation Department included a list of classes, activities and special events that focus on overall health and fitness for Hanover Township residents of all ages.
Of particular interest is the new “Fitness Circuit at Central Park” which features specially designed outdoor exercise equipment which allows residents to exercise outdoors year round weather permitting.
The monthly “Discover Hanover” walks led by residents Allen and Roberta Foster also received special attention. Each month the Fosters lead a one hour, 3-mile walk around a particular neighborhood in either Cedar Knolls or Whippany. The walks are held at 1 p.m. the second Saturday each month Most walks begin and end at the same spot.
